Does Google index Flash Websites?

This comes up a lot and the truth is that Google and other Search Engines can and do index flash websites.

You will find Google's position explained hereĀ»

In our opinion this is still very much a 'work in progress' and the functionality is not quite there yet.

All the major search engines (Yahoo, Bing, Google) readily admit this.

Search Engines are text based

Search Engines are, and look like being for the foreseeable future, text based.

What this means is that in order to be crawled and indexed, your website content needs to be in text format.

Or, to put it another way if it is important that your content is indexed in search engines and that getting traffic based on that content is important for your business, then we recommend that you do not put that content in Flash files.

But Flash is cool

We agree.  We like it to. So use it on your site to enhance your website offering, but combine it with other text based content and achieve the best of both worlds.
