Keywords! Keywords! Keywords!

Keywords are important to search engines? Right?

In a word. No.

That's right - no.  We are always asked about keywords and how to add them to pages to achieve a high ranking in search engines, but the simple answer is Google and other search engines don't use them.

But my CMS Website has spaces for keywords?

If you have time to spare, then by all means use them, but in our opinion and more importantly Google's - it won't add much to your website's ranking.

Why are keywords not important to search engines?

Years ago many website builders and webmasters abused the keyword meta tag, by stuffing it with, with what was often irrelevant content, with the aim of driving traffic to their websites.

This abuse led to search engine results pages not being accurate in terms of the search a visitor was looking for.  The simple solution for search engines  was to stop using them.

#4 Search Engine Optimisation

If you're using image names like 1234.jpg on your website, search engines will not identify the image.

Use descriptive image names instead. If your website contains an image of a silver iPod Classic, the image name 'silver-ipod-classic.jpg is better.
