What is a discovered page?
A discovered page refers to a page that has been found in Google.
Discovered pages do not impact your website ranking but this is handy information to ensure that your website’s pages are being indexed correctly.
Indexing a website is key to being found in the major search engines.
A website may have 500 pages each displaying a car for sale.
If all those pages are not indexed in Google then effectively all your cars are not ‘findable’ in Google.
Our discovered pages report is a crawl of the websites to determine how many web pages can be found.
Effect of a low number of discovered pages
A low number can indicate that bots are unable to discover your pages, which is commonly caused by bad site architecture and poor internal linking.
Or you’ve unknowingly prevented bots and search engines from crawling and indexing your pages.
Effect of high number of discovered pages
An unusually high number could be an indication of duplicate content due to URL parameters.
Duplicate content can result in your website being penalised by Google.
